Appearance

Kirin has long silver hair, with two small twin tails with a braid wrapped around each, and grey eyes. She appears to be shorter than most of the characters. She wears the Seidoukan Academy uniform jacket and skirt. She also wears a grey belt with light red designs. Her jacket seems to have trimmings on the upper sleeves. After meeting her, both Ayato and Saya immediately noted that Kirin is unusually well endowed for her age. During the time before the Lindwurm, Kirin changed her hairstyle from twin tails to a single ponytail. In addition, her breasts were noted to still be growing in size.

Personality

Kirin is generally shy, sweet, and polite. Due to her childhood trauma of indirectly causing her father to be incarcerated, she is initially self-loathing. As such, despite her exceedingly incredible fighting abilities, she puts the wishes of others before her own and allows herself to be used by her uncle, as well as blaming herself whenever anything bad happens when she is around. After being inspired by Ayato to be her own person instead of someone else's tool, she begins to be more assertive, although she is still full of self-doubt and as such, she regularly apologizes profusely whenever she finds herself to have offended others in any way, even when it is not entirely her fault. As she is used to being treated as a tool instead of a person, she is slow to warm up to others, but in time has proven herself to be a good friend. Also, Kirin has a fear of planes, and can't swim even though she retains her reflexes underwater.

Background

Kirin was born into the Toudou family's main family as the first daughter and only child. As a result, she is extensively trained in the family's fighting style, the Toudouryuu. When she was younger, she was taken hostage in an attempted robbery. Her father killed the robber, however because he was a Genestella and the robber was a normal person, the incident didn't qualify as self defense and therefore he was sent to prison for murder. A while later, she entered Seidoukan Academy under the care of her uncle, Toudou Kouichiro.

Abilities

Toudouryuu (刀藤流): Kirin uses the Toudouryuu as her main method of attack. Renzuru (連鶴): The Toudouryuu has 49 techniques that can be chained together to create fluid attacks. It is called Renzuru due to accurate attacks driving the opponent into a corner being similar to folding a paper crane. According to Yoshino, Kirin is able to use this with perfect skill on par with the founding master, far surpassing both Seijirou and herself, causing Yoshino to nickname it as New Renzuru (連鶴・新). Amagiri Shinmeiryuu (天霧辰明流): Kirin is only able to use one technique from the Deep Level that she can use without the Shiki but through sword skills alone. Genestellar (星脈世代): As a Genestellar, Kirin has enhanced physical ability and an aura known as prana. In fact, she is a second-generation Genestellar, gifting her with abilities that are generally considered superior to the first generation.

Other Abilities

Senrigan (千里眼): During Team Enfield's match with Team Huanglong, Kirin awakened the ability to see a person's will to move, allowing her to read the movements of her opponents and memorize things such as hand signs and lip movements. According to Xinglou, the user uses prana to see the pulsating flow of life (生命の脈流), and compares it to mind reading rather than a future seeing ability like Pan-Dora. As this ability puts stress on her eyes and requires a large amount of prana to use, overusing it causes her eyes to lose focus, become sensitive to light, and make her faint due to prana loss. Orga Lux (純星煌式武装): Kirin wielded a normal katana named Senbakiri (千羽切) until it was destroyed during the Gryps. She now uses the Orga Lux Fudaraku (芙堕落) and a katana named Hiinamaru (雛丸) given to her by Kouichirou. Fudaraku allows her to charge sword energy while it's sheathed to increase its power and sharpness at the cost of the time required to do so. Battoujutsu Oriha (折り羽): Kirin makes the opponent think that she's drawn her weapon but in actuality it is still sheathed. This gives Kirin an opening to attack her opponent. Throwing: Hashibami (嘴食み): Kirin runs, then throws her weapon after taking a large step forward. Sword (Deep Level) Gyakurasetsu (逆羅刹): Kirin controls the flow of power from several opponents to make them kill each other. She uses her own version of Gyakurasetsu. This technique was originally known as Sakarasetsu until volume 7.

Manadyte

Manadyte (マンダイト, Manadaito?), romanized as Manadite, is an ore created from Mana. Manadyte is an ore that has unique properties. The first is its ability to conform and memorize a specific elemental pattern when pressure is applied. Manadyte is used for the cores of Luxes, which are weapons that emit a type of laser that can cut through most objects.

Urm Manadyte

Urm Manadyte (ウルム•マナダイト, Urumu Manadaito?), romanized as Manadite, is the general term for highly pure Manadyte ores. They are far less in terms of numbers when compared to Manadyte and Lux made with it as a core are known as Orga Lux. There are several different colors and sizes with no two being the same, and they are said to have their own will.

Known Ores of Urm Manadyte

Rectangular ore, 3 centimeters wide, 5 centimeters long, used as the core for Aspera Spina, a Lux belonging to Seidoukan Academy. Circular black ore, 4 centimeters in diameter, used as the core for Tenfūjin, an Orga Lux belonging to Queenvail Girls' Academy.

Lux

Lux (煌式武装), Rect Lux (煌式遠隔誘導武装), Orga Lux (純星煌式武装), and Lost Lux (滅星煌式武装) are weapons used in Asterisk.

Appearance of Lux

Lux (煌式武装) are the most common type of weapon. Lux before activation are small and compact, fitting into the palm, with a green Manadyte located somewhere in the weapon. The user can then materialize its full appearance. Lux use Manadite as a power source. After activation, the weapon's form materializes using mana. There are different types available such as a sword, bow, spear, or gun. Ranged Lux ammunition are made entirely out of mana and dissipate soon after being fired, removing the need for new ammunition.

Rect Lux

Rect Lux (煌式遠隔誘導武装) consist of a base weapon that manipulates multiple other weapons, though it requires a high understanding of space in order to be used effectively. The terminals can be controlled with only the mind, greatly boosting reaction speeds and close combat ability. Prana can also be transmitted throughout the terminals, which can allow for faster attacks. However, their weakness is that if all the terminals are interrupted, it is mildly difficult to reorganize them fast enough. Rect Lux were produced in a joint effort by Seidoukan Academy and Arlequint Academy, and currently only those two schools use them.

Orga Lux

Orga Lux (純星煌式武装) are highly prized and powerful weapons, most of which belong to the Integrated Enterprise Foundation, though they are lent to the schools for students to use if capable. Few students are capable of using them, though they are not necessary in terms of strength and school rank. In order to borrow an Orga Lux, the student must be of a high rank, performed well at a Festa, or be a special transfer student. Orga Lux seem to dislike Stregas and Dantes, having only been used by ten at most in all of Asterisk's history. All Orga Lux are semi-sentient, having distinct abilities as well as a will of their own. They also incur a cost on their users for using them, with some being rather easy to bear or handle, and some being extremely difficult. Other than power levels, this is usually the key as to why so few Genestella, even exceptionally powerful ones, are compatible with Orga Lux or form a long term relationship with these weapons. For example, Claudia's Pan-Dora allows her to see up to 300 seconds into the future, gaining 1 second every 3 days, but at the price of seeing possible ways she can die every time she sleeps. Some Ogra Lux aren't content with just being paired with a capable user and will influence their users' minds. Some go so far as to even change their users' appearances to suit their likes and needs, with one of the most notable examples being Gravisheath. Seidoukan Academy currently possesses 23 Orga Lux, five of which are in the hands of a Page One (Ayato, Claudia, Mozuhi, and two others), and four of which are in the hands of Kirin and three other students. Many Page One students wield an Orga Lux. According to Miiko, Team Androcles used what was known as a Mass Production Type Orga Lux (量産型純星煌式武装) during the Gryps.

Lost Lux

Lost Lux (滅星煌式武装), later renamed Lux Eater (煌星喰らい), are weapons associated with the Lost Page Incident. They were first developed by Abend Fravard in Kirameki no Stella, and the data from the experiments was later used to replicate and generalize the lux, focusing on maximizing its output. However, it requires the prana of several dozen people the first time it is activated. Lost Lux are able to be used against Orga Lux as shown when Gose's Spear Lost Lux was able to touch Ayato's Ser-Veresta without being destroyed. Every time the lux comes into contact with another lux, they repel each other with tremendous force and cause a burden on both. Orga Lux seem to not like this type of lux, as Valda-Vaoth referred to it as unpleasant and the Ser-Veresta seemed to be screaming every time it came into contact with it.
