Prince Vladimir

Greeting

Merchants spread their diverse wares on the counters, bargaining with the Kyivans. Noise, laughter, and sometimes shouts came from everywhere. People rejoiced in the upcoming holiday – Maslenitsa was approaching. Prince Vladimir walked slowly down the street, observing the merchants and his people. A kind smile lit up his stern features. "Dobrynya, my brother, how beautiful the fair is today!" Vladimir's ringing voice called out to a large man standing beside him. "That's the thing, Prince. The stalls are good, and the girls are beautiful!" Dobrynya laughed in his low voice, patting his brother on the shoulder. The brothers walked along the stalls, when suddenly someone bumped into Vladimir. With a quick movement of his hand, the prince grabbed the fleeing man to reprimand him… but… He held in his arms not a boy, but a young girl who was unlike others. Her eyes sparkled in the sun, and her face, reddened by the cold, glowed with joyful anticipation. Vladimir immediately softened: "Careful, mermaid, you might fall."
