Biography

Augustus Sinclair is an entrepreneur who values ​​profit above all else - morals, honesty, and even the lives of others. Sinclair likes to keep a low profile, but will happily exploit anyone to make a few extra cents. During Rapture's heyday, Sinclair founded several profitable businesses through his company Sinclair Solutions (which researched and sold Plasmids and Tonics), including a cheap apartment building in Pauper's Drop and home testing of experimental Plasmids on desperate addicts. He also started a toy manufacturing and sales operation. As Rapture began to crumble before his eyes, he saw a new opportunity to make money: collect all the incredible scientific discoveries made by the city's brilliant minds, bring them to the surface, and sell them to the highest bidder. He needs you to help him escape Rapture so he can carry out his plan. Unlike Andrew Ryan, Sinclair doesn't believe that altruism is evil; he just doesn't make money. He helps you to help himself.

Biography

Augustus Sinclair was born in Panama in 1914. His grandfather was a worker on the Panama Canal who believed that everything he did was for the common good. His grandfather's failure, which led to his death, impressed upon Sinclair that any effort should be directed only towards himself and his future. In the hope of getting rich quickly, Sinclair went to America. Some time later, when Andrew Ryan created Rapture, he moved there - Andrew Ryan's invitation interested him in the opening prospects of obtaining his own monetary and credit benefit. Sinclair did not lose - the underwater city turned out to be an extremely successful platform for doing business. Thanks to his business acumen, August managed to quickly become one of the richest and most respected residents of Rapture.

Due to Ryan's extreme suspiciousness, Persephone was never empty. The prison also became home to Sofia Lamb, a famous psychiatrist from the surface who quite successfully promoted her altruistic ideas in the underwater city. In order to benefit from Sofia's imprisonment, Sinclair suggested that she use her medical skills for the benefit of the system - she was supposed to make the prisoners more obedient. Lamb agreed, but not without an ulterior motive - during her work, the scientist became close not only to the criminals, but also to the prison staff, which allowed her to count on their support. These relaxations of the regime did not go in vain - after some time, Sofia organized a rebellion and captured Persephone, making it her headquarters. Having lost the prison, Sinclair did not give up - in the conditions of the escalating civil war in Rapture, he again found a way to make money. August decided to continue selling plasmids to anyone who wanted them, without dividing into groups. Despite the fact that this act caused a new surge in deaths, the businessman did not change his policy - sales brought in huge profits, besides, the ethical side of the matter never bothered him. After Andrew Ryan's downfall, Sinclair went into hiding and allied himself with Brigid Tenenbaum. However, Brigid's lofty ideals were alien to him - ultimately, he hoped that the scientist would help him get to the surface, where he could sell Rapture's priceless inventions for a higher price.

In the game, Sinclair acts as the protagonist's assistant, serving as a "guide" through the half-sunken city - on the one hand, this was requested by Bridget, and on the other, Delta turned out to be the ideal candidate to lead the businessman to the rescue capsules that would take him to the surface. Throughout the journey, Sinclair shows Delta the dilapidated Rapture, introduces him to its inhabitants (for example, the Little Sisters) and along the way gives useful advice on survival, while Delta, in turn, protects her partner from attacks by mutants and Sophia's minions. However, despite all his zeal, Delta failed to save Sinclair - once in Persephone, he lost sight of his comrade. While Delta was saving Eleanor, Sofia made a knight's move - she turned Sinclair into a Big Daddy (one of the Alpha series) and subjugated him to her will in order to force him to fight his former partner. True, in her haste, she did not have time to completely destroy Sinclair's personality, as well as modify his ligaments, so the newly-minted Big Daddy retained the ability to think and speak. Finding himself in such a strange situation, Sinclair decided for the first time in his life to do something for free. He no longer cared about his own desires - the only thing that mattered was the success of Delta's operation. Struggling with his new condition, the businessman did everything he could to help his former partner defeat the monster he had become. And when Delta finished the job, Sinclair had no choice but to thank his friend for ending his own ruined life.

Facts

Augustus Sinclair represents a more flexible mindset adopted by Fontaine in the original BioShock: he initially helps Delta for his own benefit, but in the final moments of his life, we see his selfless side. Upon close inspection of Sinclair's Big Daddy arm, one can see the Greek letter Ω for "Omega". This is a hint that he is the last Big Daddy of the Alpha Series (Omega is the last letter in the Greek alphabet). In "BioShock2\SP\Content\BinkMovies," there is a file named "gul_sinc_dies.bik". In this file, you can see what could have happened to Augustus Sinclair. Judging by the file name, this could have been an alternate ending to his existence.
