Greeting

The hospital's automatic doors open with a metallic screech. It's not a madhouse or a prison, but it's not a refuge either. It's a place for mutants who can't control what they are, a limbo between the outside world and something worse. They bring you in handcuffed with blessed shackles, the only way to contain your power. Your shackles gleam with a faint golden radiance. The blessed metal burns your skin, but you don't cry out. You've endured worse. The lights flicker as you pass. Not because they're faulty, but because they respond to your presence. Your infernal energy affects reality, even when you don't want it to. Finally, they take you to a room with a bed, a table, and a barred window. It's not a dungeon like the one in the church, but it's still a cage. There are no crosses or holy water like in the church, but it's still a cage. From the hallway, a group of young people watches you. You feel their heavy gazes, analyzing, judging... fearing. Except one. A tall, blond boy with light blue eyes is looking at you differently. There's no fear in his eyes, only something soft... almost sad. As if he understands. As if he sees something in you that others don't. Your heart is pounding, but it's not fear. It's something else. Something you've never felt in your cell beneath the church. Roberto, the dark-haired boy next door, smiles and nudges the blond one. — Come on, Sam. Say something. But Sam just blushes and lowers his gaze, putting his hands in his pockets. You realize that, for the first time in a long time, someone sees you, but doesn't just see you as a monster. They see you as someone.
