personality

Shoto originally had a cold and distant personality, stemming from his abusive upbringing and complicated home life. Focused and emotionless, Shoto preferred to keep to himself rather than hanging out with others. However, following the events of the Sports Festival, Shoto became noticeably more sociable and friendly, even gaining a sense of humor and occasionally smiling, though he still retains some shreds of his former aloofness. After the Remedial Course, he began to open up more to his classmates and has eased off his usually serious demeanor. However, Shoto is still unfamiliar with socializing, as he is shown to be somewhat dense when it comes to understanding certain forms of speech. Shoto threatening a villain Shoto's original coldness. While generally quiet and reserved, Shoto initially possessed a moderate level of arrogance, which combined with his solitary tendencies, sometimes caused him to take the initiative without considering the opinions of others, displaying confidence that he could face any obstacle with his own strength. Shoto preferred to act alone, though for practical purposes, as doing so allows him to unleash his full power without having to worry about fire. Shoto deeply detested his fire abilities that he inherited from Endeavor, as it symbolized his father's evil towards him and his mother, as well as what he was born to be: a tool to surpass All Might, a fate he detested.

After the battle, Shoto had mixed feelings about using his left side, but after reconciling with his mother, he finally came to terms with the half he once hated and was willing to train it further. Despite being scarred by her as a young child, Shoto shows no hard feelings towards his mother, visiting her often since the end of the Sports Festival. Shoto seems to draw his heroic values ​​from All Might, a trait he shares with Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo, having fond memories of watching the Symbol of Peace on television together with Rei. Despite his difficult past, Shoto doesn't allow his hatred for Endeavor to completely cloud his judgment and still acknowledges him for his skills and abilities as one of Japan's top heroes. He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency Internships and made it clear that this was purely for his own benefit.

However, Shoto's resentment towards Endeavor has not yet disappeared, even if he respects his father's skill as a Hero, admitting that such resentment cannot be so easily erased and that he was wrong to try to bury it. Having been denied a normal childhood so that his father could train him to fulfill his own selfish ambitions, Shoto still bears several psychological scars that tend to resurface when others compare him to Endeavor. Due to this and Izuku's influence, Shoto now strives to become a Hero but without walking the same path his father did. Shoto remains relatively cool toward Endeavor and has made it clear that forgiveness for his past treatment of him and his mother is difficult, but has shown concern for his father's safety. Now that Endeavor is trying to mend his relationship with his family, Shoto has taken a cautious but hopeful approach to this development. Later, Shoto decides to intern with his father again, but also invites Izuku and Katsuki to train with him, and all three eventually intern with Endeavor. This allows Shoto to greatly improve his teamwork and allows him to more accurately develop his ability to control his ice and fire abilities. Following the events of the Paranormal Liberation War, especially the revelation that his brother Toya Todoroki is alive and is the infamous assassin Dabi, Shoto shows himself to be more mature and decides to stop running away from his past and instead take responsibility for his family's unresolved issues. Although he still holds his father responsible for what happened to his childhood and his mother, he now decides to support Endeavor so that he doesn't bear the full weight of the guilt. Shoto is a tall young man, standing at 1.76m tall and well built for his age, being 15 years old. He has slightly long hair although it does not go past his neck, he wears bangs parted twice so as not to obscure his vision. His hair is evenly divided between two colors: white on his right side and crimson red on his left, this unusual color is due to his quirk. As another result of this he also possesses heterochromia iridium, which makes the iris of his left eye turquoise, while the right is a grayish brown. His eyes are rather thin and reserved and he also has a large burn scar on the left side of his face, extending from his hairline to the middle of his cheek. Despite this, however, several of the girls in his class have claimed that he is handsome, Mina Ashido even went as far as to say that he is the cutest boy in Class 1-A. During school hours he wears the normal male UA uniform, replacing the usual brown dress shoes with casual pale cyan and grey laces. In his initial hero costume, he wears a plain white shirt with matching pants and boots, with two gold-colored straps over his shoulders. He has what appears to be an ice-like material covering his entire left side including his head, though it is detachable which he uses as a way to reject the fire aspect of his Quirk. His updated hero costume consists of a dark blue jacket with elbow-length sleeves, a high collar and joined in the center by a grey collar, baggy pants of the same color, a metal-plated combat vest, and white boots, the soles and a thin line running down the center of each of them being a darker pale grey. He also sports a brown utility belt around his waist, with small metal capsules containing medical supplies hanging from the front.

Later in the Provisional Hero License exam, his suit gains two burgundy wrist guards with metal plates, which help regulate his body temperature after his attacks, and his boots now have a set of straps. At some point during spring break, Shoto further upgrades his suit, which bears some visual similarities to his father's second suit. His wrist guards now feature armor-like reinforcements and are accompanied by plates running from his wrist to his knuckles. His jacket now features a large T-shaped stripe running from his waist to his armpits and his utility belt now has two large canisters along with his medical supplies. For the World Heroes Mission, Shoto is given a special advanced stealth suit by the World Hero Association for his mission to Otheon. Shoto designs his stealth suit to resemble the third variant with the entire suit being made of a black neoprene jacket and thin black pants with built-in knee pads, metal plates to regulate body temperature, and longer sleeves. He also sports a black belt around his waist with silver plates on it, as well as two silver plates on his shoulders, with the letters "WHA".

Skills

General Abilities: Having been trained by his father at a young age, Shoto entered UA Academy through recommendations and has established himself as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. He placed second in both the Quirk Apprehension Test and the UA Sports Festival. Shoto also has great control over his versatile and powerful Quirk granting him incredible dual abilities. Shoto freezes villains Shoto effortlessly defeated villains in the USJ Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically reduce temperatures and freeze anything he touches. Shoto can rapidly freeze entire buildings, as well as create large waves of ice instantly. Despite his incredible raw power, Shoto possesses great control and direction over his right side. He can restrain the ice to avoid fatally freezing someone or use precision attacks to freeze only certain parts of a target's body. If fighting alongside others, he is capable of covering enemy territory in ice while also preventing it from getting in the way of his allies. Shoto is able to mold ice into certain shapes to support himself, such as protective barriers, ladders to elevate himself, or a moving ice wave for him to ride. Shoto also has many mobility options, such as stacking ice shards behind his back to propel himself forward or freezing the ground to skate on. From the left side of his body, Shoto can drastically increase temperatures and release burning flames. When Shoto ignites his flames, the resulting fire covers his arm and the left side of his head. He is capable of firing consuming streams of fire or protective short waves. After upgrading his suit to help him control his temperatures, the flames only ignite on Shoto's hand, showing more control over his left side.

Quirk

Half Cold Half Hot (半はん冷れい半はん燃ねん Hanrei Hannen?): Shoto's Quirk grants him the ability to freeze with the right half of his body and burn with the left half. The appendages on his right side can drastically reduce the temperatures of anything they touch, enough to create large waves of ice. The limbs on his left side generate heat and allow Shoto to create and shoot streams of fire. The drawback of his Quirk stems from his need to maintain his own body temperature, as overuse of his ice power causes Shoto to suffer from frostbite. The frost covering his body slows him down physically and weakens the strength and speed of his ice attacks. However, this weakness can be countered if Shoto uses his left side to compensate for the low temperature. The side effect of prolonged use of his fire side has yet to be revealed, due to him never overusing it. As Stain noted, one of Shoto's greatest weaknesses is his heavy reliance on the devastating power of his Quirk. Another drawback is that Shoto cannot fully control the fire and ice he generates. While he is capable of using both abilities simultaneously, he has stated that he is unfamiliar with doing so and still needs practice wielding his Quirk.
