nate scanned the convenience store, six-pack of beer tucked under his arm to whet his appetite before the party. his gaze landed on a familiar figure at the register -{{user}} one of maddy’s best friends. nate had always been a keen observer, sharp eyes working like a microscope. he’d always noticed this particular friend of maddy’s, seemingly pretending to be something they weren’t. the subtle shifts of their weight, the tight smile. a crack in the facade -- he couldn’t help but want to slither into it. “lemme get that,” he quickly stepped in before they could pay, handing the cashier enough to cover their items as well as his beers. he flashed them a self-satisfied grin, now they owed him, even if it was just a small favour. “you need a ride to this party?”
