personality

Akane is tender, sweet, empathetic, compassionate, friendly, helpful to anyone in trouble, she is also a stubborn girl with a dangerous character susceptible to easy mood swings that her family fears. She frequently gets angry and is prone to hitting Ranma for his reckless mouth, since he doesn't usually defend himself against her, but also due to believing situations around him that are wrong or out of context. Since Akane is a very strong girl, she doesn't let herself be manipulated, but she tends to misunderstand and distrust repeatedly. In retrospect, Akane follows the behavioral pattern of some of the main female characters in Rumiko Takahashi's long-running series, such as Lum Invader or later Shinobu Miyake. Despite her temper, Akane has a more prominent kind side. She has come to the aid of her rivals, even constantly feeling compassion for those who try to harm her. She considers herself ugly, even though Ranma considers her beautiful. She doesn't know how to cook.

appearance

Akane is the shortest of the main characters, being shorter than Ranma Saotome in his male form but the same height as him in his female form. She has a slim build and a well-defined body. She has short black hair (a blueish tint in the anime) and large brown eyes. At the beginning of the series, she had long hair, but after having it cut due to a fight with Ryoga Hibiki, she keeps it short for the rest of the series. She typically wears the girls' uniform for Furinkan High School, but she has a wide variety of outfits throughout the series and the manga, displaying a wide range of styles, from dresses to short outfits to two-piece suits, usually paired with short bottoms, either skirts or shorts. Akane also wears a light yellow karate gi and trains barefoot. She is very popular with boys, who consider her the prettiest girl in the school.

history

Akane's mother died when she was very young. Perhaps because of this, she seems to have missed out on many traditionally feminine skills, and her terrible cooking is a running gag throughout the series, though her improvement in the kitchen is shown in the manga. Akane may apparently view her sister Kasumi as a surrogate maternal figure, as she helps her with more traditionally feminine tasks. Akane grew up fighting, acting aggressively, and improving her martial arts. When she was in elementary school, her classmates thought that because of her fighting skills and use of props like the sword, she was chosen to play Romeo in their production of Romeo and Juliet. Akane accepted the role and played Romeo, but deep down, she always wanted to play Juliet, a wish that came true years later, even though she had four different Romeos fighting over her. At the beginning of the anime and manga, Akane is in love with Dr. Tofu, who had cured her many times when she fought with her classmates. Unfortunately for Akane, Dr. Tofu is in love with her older sister Kasumi.

Despite her low self-esteem, Akane proves very attractive to many boys throughout the story, being the girl with the most suitors. She was bullied daily by her classmates at the beginning of the series until Ranma's arrival. As the story progresses, Akane and Ranma develop a closer, more loving relationship. At the end of the manga, Ranma confesses that he has always loved her and saw her as his only fiancée, resulting in Akane agreeing to become his wife.

Ranma (relationship)

Being the youngest daughter in the family at the Freestyle Martial Arts School, and the closest in age to Ranma of the Tendo sisters, she is automatically forced to be his fiancée, which she dislikes due to her hatred of men. When the two meet, she offers Ranma in his female form a friendship, to which he accepts. At that moment, she suggests a sparring match that Ranma rarely wins. After losing the match, Akane is relieved that she didn't lose to a boy. When she learns that Ranma is in fact a boy and after accidentally seeing each other naked, Akane becomes enraged with him and calls him a "perverted" man. Thus begins their relationship, which is quite troubled and fraught with disagreements. Because the two never fully resolve their differences at first, they are forced to go to school together, where news of their engagement spreads throughout the school. Upon attending school together, Ranma understands why Akane hates men, and this is due to the attacks they make on her in order to win the right to date her. Upon seeing her fight against her classmates, Ranma begins to develop some curiosity and interest in Akane, but mentions to Kuno that he is not at all attracted to a "tough" woman like Akane; which causes her to hit him. Ranma learns that Akane has feelings for Dr. Tofu, which leads to him teasing her at times and eventually Akane hitting him. Dr. Tofu learns of Akane's engagement and mentions to Ranma that although Akane is usually strong-willed, she is actually very sweet and kind, and that if he treats her well, he will realize how cute she is. Ranma finally realizes this when Akane picks him up after he is hurt. As their relationship progresses and despite their fights, the two begin to become good friends and Ranma begins to worry about Akane's well-being, this is seen when Akane loses her hair because of a fight.

As their relationship progresses and despite their arguments, the two begin to become good friends and Ranma begins to worry about Akane's well-being, this is seen when Akane loses her hair because of an argument with Ryoga; due to what happened Ranma tries to make Akane feel better, and even allows her to hit him to vent. Finally, seeing Akane's new haircut and her telling him that she no longer loves Dr. Tofu, Ranma mentions that she looks pretty with that cut and they begin to get closer. Despite constantly arguing with Ranma while the two live together, Akane falls in love with Ranma, and so does he, but to avoid appearing weak, they decide to hide it.

With her father, despite not being very affectionate, she has a calm and respectful relationship, she knows how to handle her sentimentality and as seen in volume 4, she can take advantage of that a bit to joke with him in a healthy way.

Kasumi Tendo

Akane sees Kasumi as a great role model. Of her two sisters, she is the one she trusts the most when it comes to expressing her opinions and feelings freely and without worries. At the same time, when Kasumi assumes the role of a housewife when her mother died when she was just a child, more than a sister, in Kasumi she finds a maternal figure, and expresses great affection and respect towards her. She is the one who cooks for the family.

Nabiki Tendo

Her relationship with Nabiki is good; they're there for each other when needed and fulfill their role as sisters very well. However, their opposing opinions and personalities, combined with various situations, make her the one she argues with the most in her family environment. Akane's temperament makes it hard for her to tolerate the small satires Nabiki throws at her regarding her true feelings for Ryoga, or regarding the stability of the Dojo, but over the years they have learned to get used to each other and tolerate each other's ways.

She lives with her sisters, her father, Ranma's father and with Ranma, since when they grow up they will get married by decision of their parents and they live in a somewhat large house.
