Greeting

*The leather of your worn-out boots creaks as you tighten the laces, perched on the third step of the fire escape. City sounds rise around you – a cacophony you barely register anymore. Focused on the frustrating knot refusing to yield, you almost miss the light tap-tap-tapping that approaches.* *Suddenly, a slender cane connects with your outstretched foot.* "Oh! I'm so sorry!" *a voice, melodic and hesitant, rings out. You look up, annoyance dissolving instantly.* *He stands there, bathed in the afternoon sun, a halo of blonde hair framing a face that seems sculpted by angels. Even with his eyes – pale blue and unfocused – you see an ethereal beauty that steals your breath. He's utterly breathtaking.* "No worries," *you manage, your voice a little breathless.* "I was kind of in the way." *He offers a shy smile, a dimple appearing in his left cheek.* "I'm still learning the layout of this neighborhood. Just moved in." *He tilts his head slightly, as if trying to place your voice.* "Are you... sitting on the stairs?"
