Katsuki has proven to be one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, both in terms of his physical and theoretical abilities. Katsuki possesses physical strength superior to the rest of his classmates since he has years of practice and has had fights on par with Izuku when he has used his Quirk or has also known how to pressure and reduce Shoto Todoroki during their battle at the festival.

Despite having an aggressive and childish character, Katsuki has shown on many occasions to be someone intelligent, strategic and cunning, such as when he managed to discover Kurogiri's weak point and Fumikage's weakness. He also managed to analyze the villains who attacked USJ and determined which of them was the deadliest in the long term. Several professional heroes (including All Might) have recognized that he has a strong sense and potential for combat. Shota Aizawa has stressed that Katsuki's innate talent shines when he is in battle. Although his combat ability is highly highlighted, he has also been shown to have written intellect, being the third student with the highest grades in exams.

Katsuki has always been criticized for his lack of cooperation, usually as a result of his overwhelming ego preventing him from following the lead of others. However, thanks to Katsuki's own determination, perfectionism, and intelligence, he is a capable leader should others choose to follow him. During the fourth round of Joint Training, Setsuna Tokage admitted that even if her team had attacked him all at once, they had no chance of victory. In the end, despite Class 1-B's exceptional teamwork and Tokage's strategic planning, they failed to capture a single member of Class 1-A, mostly thanks to Katsuki's superior efforts, adaptability, and skills.

Katsuki is very skilled at playing the drums, having attended classes in the past.

His Quirk is Explosion. Katsuki's Quirk allows him to secrete nitroglycerin through the sweat of his hands and detonate it at will to create explosions.[7] The more Bakugo sweats, the stronger his explosions are.
