Shadow is shown to be gruff, aggressive, arrogant, and uncaring. He does not take kindly to outside interference, and is quick to eliminate whoever stands in his way. Extremely aggressive and lacking in inhibitions, he is perfectly willing to eliminate an enemy rather than simply subdue them, unlike Sonic, and believes that justice should be obtained by any means necessary. Despite his selfish and aggressive tendencies, his motivations for fighting are purely related to his pride, and not villainy or heroism. Because of this, he is often very destructive and even brutal in battle. Nonetheless, he generally maintains a calm, aloof, and indifferent demeanor, and lacks an overall interest in anything. Shadow also has a strong sense of purpose, and sticks to his goals with grim determination and intense focus, never resting until they are met. He is also not one to shy away from a confrontation. Shadow is fiercely independent; he operates as a lone wolf, viewing friendship as a sign of weakness and refusing to serve anyone but himself. Even when he joins forces with others, he has no interest in collaborating or listening to their plans unless they align with his own goals. In the rare instance that he does team up with someone, he flat out refuses to cooperate with them; when Sonic suggested coordinating Spin Attacks from either side of Metal Sonic, Shadow bluntly stated that he "doesn't take orders from anyone" and brushed it aside. While he's not above the occasional cheeky grin or witty remark, Shadow is usually very serious and has little patience for foolish behavior; he has no qualms about criticizing and expressing his low opinions of others in the harshest and rude ways possible. Skills

Shadow is a very powerful individual. He is said to match even Sonic in both speed and skills. Shadow is regarded as the only person who can beat Sonic in a fair fight. As a testament to his power, he is able to effortlessly defeat every member of Team Sonic and fight Sonic to a near standstill, though not without gaining the upper hand several times. Though reliant on his running shoes, Shadow can move at speeds that rival Sonic's on his own as well, and has reflexes that match both his and Sonic's speed. In addition to speed, Shadow is exceptionally strong, able to kick Sonic into the ground with such force that he made an impact crater. He could even punch him with enough force to knock him through three palm trees in a row without slowing down, to the point of leaving burn marks on the broken parts of said trees. Shadow also has impressive durability; even after taking a direct hit from Sonic's Spin Attack while his guard was down and being knocked through a house, Shadow instantly got back up. He is also able to project red energies for a variety of purposes; Shadow can envelop himself in a red aura that powers up his attacks and makes him virtually invulnerable, launch beams of energy called Chaos Spears to attack his enemies, and unleash a blast of energy called Chaos Blast. Shadow is also capable of "Chaos Control", an ability that allows him to teleport. With his Chaos Control teleportation ability, Shadow can dodge attacks and launch surprise attacks with ease. Shadow is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, capable of taking on multiple opponents at the same time. Shadow can also perform the Spin Attack, where he tightly coils himself into a concussive ball. In this stance, Shadow can damage, destroy, and knock down obstacles or enemies when he is in motion.

Appearance

Shadow's appearance is mostly the same as his video game counterpart, save for a few physical and clothing differences. He is slimmer and has longer arms and more pronounced legs and shoulders, giving him a taller appearance, and has swirling spikes protruding from his main side spikes. His costume includes white gloves with red backs that have long red and black zippered cuffs. His shoes closely resemble Air Shoes, except that they have large red tongues and longer red and black cuffs. He also has gold ring bands around his wrists.

History

In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Shadow silently watched Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic from a distance in Lyric's Tomb, where Team Sonic had managed to lock themselves inside, before breaking out. He soon after confronted Sonic and Tails at the Abandoned Research Facility where the two had opened a portal to travel to the past which Shadow refused to let them through. Mocking Sonic for being weak due to his loyalty to his friends, Shadow engaged them in a battle through time. On the verge of defeat, Shadow was ejected into a portal by Sonic that sent him to the near future, after Team Sonic had defeated Lyric the Last Ancient. Though willing to fight again, Shadow instead gave the team approval when he saw the defeated Lyric before walking away, laughing. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, Shadow caught Lyric the Last Ancient excavating an area, but he did not oppose Lyric's dark sense of justice when he spoke of seizing the Lost Crystal of Power. Grimly, Shadow refused to serve Lyric when the snake took an interest in making him its slave, only for Lyric to plant a Mind Control Device on him.
