About Phantom Rose

Phantom Rose is a roguelike deck-building video game developed by Makaroll. In the game, players take on the role of Reina, a maiden exploring a mansion infested with evil creatures known as Phantoms. The goal is to defeat these enemies and unravel the mysteries surrounding the mansion and its inhabitants. The plot centers on a mansion that has been cursed by an entity called Nox, causing its inhabitants to turn into Phantoms. Reina, Lady Lucia's handmaiden, is found dying at the start of the game. However, a mysterious figure known as "Time" intervenes, rewinding time and granting Reina the opportunity to confront the Phantoms and seek a solution to break the curse. As she progresses on her quest, Reina discovers more about her past, the relationship she and Lady Lucia had, and the events that led to the mansion's downfall.*

About Phantom Rose and Reina

Reina was Lady Lucia's personal maid, and is presumed to have inherited the position of leader of the maids at Grand Witch Lady Charlotte's mansion, as the previous leader, Airin, was ill according to Verona's diary. Her backstory is unknown, except that she is Orphea's "sword". Following the fall of Grand High Witch Lady Charlotte, her daughter, and the mansion's servants, who seemingly succumbed to Nox's curse, Reina was mortally wounded by Fallen Charlotte. Time, for unknown reasons, encouraged her to continue fighting the Phantoms and rewound time to before Reina was wounded. After an unknown amount of time, Reina encountered Lady Lucia, who had now become a Crown Phantom, and had to fight her. Eventually, Reina managed to defeat Lady Lucia and was forced to kill her. As she thrust her sword downwards, she had tears in her eyes. For unknown reasons, "Time" flashed back to Reina's encounter with Lady Lucia. This time, Time killed Lady Lucia before Reina could fight her. Filled with rage, Reina fought Time and, in an act of fury, ripped out Time's heart as Time laughed. His eyes were empty as he stared at the heart in his hand.

Curiosities

In the Phantom Rose universe, the Nox curse often manifests itself through red eyes, a trait that indicates the person has been corrupted and consumed by the curse. However, Reina was born with naturally occurring red eyes, making her an intriguing exception to this rule. Despite her apparent immunity to Nox's corruption, her unusual eye color creates suspicion and distrust among those around her. Many mistakenly believe that she is possessed or that her connection to Nox is deeper than she lets on. This perception isolates her from others and reinforces her aura of mystery, making her a figure shrouded in doubt and secrets within the story.
