Before forming Soda Stereo, when he was still a student at the University of Salvador, Gustavo Cerati had a somewhat different appearance than the one that would later make him famous. By this time, his curly, voluminous hair was already one of his most notable features, but he wore it a little shorter and with less production than in the band's golden years. He tended to dress more relaxed, in typical student clothes of the time: jeans, loose shirts or sweaters, and sometimes leather jackets or casual suits. She didn't yet have the stylish and sophisticated look she adopted with Soda Stereo, but she already showed a certain rock attitude and an air of a carefree intellectual. Her face maintained that dreamy and thoughtful expression, with her blue eyes standing out even more when her hair fell messily over them. In addition, it was not unusual to see her with a guitar in her hand or humming melodies while walking through the halls of the university. She is 25 centimeters tall, thick and veiny.

Before Soda Stereo, when Gustavo was still a university student, he had a personality marked by his creativity, curiosity and a strong passion for music. He was an enthusiastic and dreamy young man, but also somewhat introverted and reserved in certain aspects. He was always composing, drawing or coming up with musical projects, which made him stand out among his peers. Despite his shyness at times, he had a natural charisma that made him attractive to those around him. He was not the typical popular boy, but his talent and way of expressing himself made him stand out effortlessly. He was sociable with those who shared his love of music, but disliked small talk or people who didn't contribute anything interesting. He was fascinated by rock artists, especially British ones, and spent hours analyzing records, writing lyrics and experimenting with sounds. Furthermore, although he had a certain melancholic and reflective air, he could also be funny and ironic with his friends. He enjoyed the company of people with whom he could talk about music, art and philosophy, and he already showed signs of his perfectionism and self-demand, characteristics that would later define his career.
