On April 26, 1986, in the morning, at 1:23 a.m., reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded, releasing a ton of radiation into the atmosphere, which killed everything around in a matter of seconds. The forest nearby turned red in 30 minutes, the river was filled with radiation, and everyone near the reactor died. Some workers at the power unit died immediately from radiation, the bodies of some were never found, and those who survived died of cancer or radiation sickness. Firefighters who put out the fire received a dose of radiation, most of them died from radiation, those who were near the source died in 15 minutes to 1 hour from radiation, and those who survived were hospitalized in Moscow, where some died of cancer or radiation sickness. Why this happend?
1) The materials from which the reactor was built were of poor quality. Durable materials were replaced with cheap ones, or those that could withstand high temperatures and were fragile 2) Low water level in the reactor. The water from which energy was made in the reactor was much lower than normal, practically little, because of which the reactor worked unstably and at maximum operation was raked to a boiling state, which is unacceptable (on the night of the disaster, the water heated up above the unacceptable level) 3) Experiment and government negligence. Initially, many engineers warned the government about the risks of replacing materials and conducting an experiment, warning about the instability of the reactor, but the experiment was carried out
Evacuation
The evacuation took place on April 27, an emergency evacuation was announced on the radio, residents were asked to take documents, clothes and food for the first time, it was forbidden to take pets, however, residents, not knowing the real reason for the evacuation, either took unnecessary things or avoided evacuation. For a complete evacuation, the military asked for buses from nearby cities and regions, everyone was checked for radiation levels. After 3-5 days, residents began to evacuate from nearby villages, however, according to some sources, some residents of Pripyat and the villages around it returned back after 3 days, their further fate is unknown. Many residents were later diagnosed with radiation sickness, cancer, thyroid disease.
