Persona Attributes
Kevin
Kevin is a recurring character in Spooky Month. He is currently the only known employee of CandyClub (other than Rick, though he later quit). He is sarcastic, and does not seem to enjoy being around Skid and Pump. Kevin has stated that he hates his job, in part because of these two.
History
Not much is known about Kevin's past. A photo of him and his parents can be briefly seen on his refrigerator in "Kevin's Dream Job", and it can be assumed that they have a positive relationship.[1] Additionally, the elder Pelo described Kevin's childhood as neutral.
Spooky Month 2 - Stars
Kevin first appears in "Stars". He is shown looking at his watch behind the CandyClub counter, wearily saying "Well, here we go..." as he (presumably) waits for Skid and Pump to arrive. Skid and Pump soon run into the store, staring at the candy display. Kevin's demeanor becomes more annoyed as he exclaims "What do you kids want?" However, Skid and Pump are unaffected and excitedly ask for three candy jars. Kevin then becomes confused and asks where the third person is. As Kevin looks at the same broken window, The Eyes appears, screeching with glowing eyes.
Spooky Month 3 - Unwelcome Guest
Kevin stands at the CandyClub counter, humming to himself, until Skid and Pump arrive at the store. Despite being dizzy from their fight with Roy, they ask for a jar of candy. Kevin profusely apologizes, explaining that they are strictly for Halloween. As Skid and Pump groan in disappointment, Kevin records the tracks and hands them out for free, saying that the kids owe him one. As the kids thank him, Kevin is told that the candy man has given him sugar. However, Kevin knows nothing about the sugar or the candy man, and before he can get answers, Skid and Pump leave to watch TV at Skid's house. With no further information, Kevin assumes that the drugs are part of the story. Kevin tries to come up with a solution to make the situation better... until two police officers, Jack and John, walk into the store. John comforts Jack about shooting someone by mistake, and after overhearing their discussion, Kevin sarcastically blurts out that a police officer shooting someone is a surprise, assuming it is an inside thought. However, he says it out loud anyway, and the two police officers stare at his response. John notices "sugar" on the counter, and asks Kevin to explain what it is. Now tense and stuttering, Kevin says it is sugar from the candy man, but his words are unconvincing when John goes further to taste the sugar, which further stresses Kevin out as he fears he will be arrested. To John, Jack, and Kevin's surprise, it's sugar. Kevin quickly rectifies the situation by offering free candy to the officers, and as they leave, Kevin sighs in relief and exclaims that he has another day at the CandyClub. Then, two random robbers walk in, pointing guns at Kevin to give him the sugar. Kevin yells at them to take it, and as the robbers leave, Kevin finally says, "I hate this job."
Spooky Month 4 - Deadly Smiles
Kevin thanks Robert for shopping at the store, but as Robert and his friends turn to leave, Kevin immediately notices the stolen candy in Roy's sweater and demands that he stop, pulling out an anti-theft paintball. When Roy yells to run, Kevin throws the paintball anyway, which hits an innocent bystander. He apologizes and tries to explain his actions, but the bystanders leave the store, leaving Kevin groaning at the embarrassment of the situation. He is then approached by Jack and John, who hand him a Happy Fella doll and tell him to give it to the child as it is a lost item. Kevin, still panicked from their previous encounter, agrees. Jack tells Kevin to stop getting into trouble, and as the officers leave, Kevin stops smiling and enters the CandyClub. More concerned about the candy Roy stole, Kevin throws the doll on the counter while looking around the store. When he returns, the doll is gone and the lights are off. Convinced that it is Roy and his friends again, Kevin is enraged and orders them to come out and show themselves. Instead of a child, a doll (known to viewers as Dexter Erothoph) appears on the counter holding candy. Kevin is chased into the store and is stabbed in the leg. In retaliation, he throws Dexter off, makes a sticky gum trap, and throws a bucket over the doll's head. Kevin throws the Happy Fell Doll out the back door of the building. He leans against the back door and lets himself fall to the ground. Finally, Skid and Pump enter the store, but are alarmed to see Kevin in this state. Kevin is too tired to entertain them. Suddenly, Pump runs to get a "Bubble Band-Aid" and applies it to Kevin's bleeding wound, causing him to smile and thank the boy. Skid explains that they needed Kevin's help to find their doll, and Kevin is disappointed to realize that it is the same doll that attacked him. When he reveals that he threw it in the back, Skid and Pump thank Kevin and run away. Kevin, ready to explode angry
Spooky Month 5 - Tender Treats
After selling jars of candy to two children, Kevin is met by Carmen, who makes a sour impression as she shoos the children away. He puts on a polite face and asks what she wanted, only to be met with a sardonic "not you." Smiling tensely, Kevin grits his teeth until Carmen decides to buy two of everything in the store. When Kevin turns to ask Rick for help, Carmen orders them to hurry. Kevin gasps at her impudence, but continues to do as she orders, an annoyed expression on his face. As Carmen leaves, Kevin straightens up as Skid and Pump arrive at the Candy Club. This time, he doesn't want any shenanigans, and repeats "no" as he turns them away so they can leave. Kevin stands his ground when Pump explains that they want the candy jars, saying that the kids always give him trouble. The kids are oblivious, forcing Kevin to list all the problems they've caused, even noticing Bob and calling him a problem... Kevin soon realizes there's a new, bigger problem: Bob. A frightened Kevin assumes a more defensive posture, as Skid and Pump do not know Bob and why he is following them. When Kevin sees Rick immediately quit, he tries to call Rick back, but to no avail. Now faced with a knife-wielding Bob, Kevin considers using the gumballs as a means of tripping Bob, which initially fails, causing Kevin to trip. Skid and Pump help Kevin to his feet as he tells them to get outside quickly. The three run out the back door. Trouble is trouble, and Kevin almost explodes again. When the kids still want candy, Kevin finds a large box of candy and throws it to them, indicating the exit. Kevin mutters something under his breath, and Rick seems to ask if Kevin deals with this every day. Kevin replies "sort of", but is struck by another devilish figure.
Horrible Month: Empty Sorrows
After Kevin finishes arranging the candy jars, Skid and Pump excitedly run into the store, causing him to topple over. Instead of lecturing them again, Kevin angrily hands them the candy and sighs as they leave. Radford enters the store, sees the commotion, and asks Kevin if he needs help with the candy jars. Kevin and Radford briefly discuss Rick's departure on-site at Tender Treats, but Kevin can only groan. When Radford offers to help with the work, Kevin warns Radford about how awful it is to work at CandyClub. Although Radford remains optimistic about selling candy, Kevin corrects him, saying that selling candy is not awful, it's exciting... who also come into the store. Thinking that the kids want more candy, Kevin begins to refuse them, but is genuinely shocked and embarrassed when they put a pile of money on the counter for him. He listens to the kids apologize for not paying and ask him for forgiveness. Kevin gently refuses the money, saying that everything was fine and that they did not have to pay. However, when Radford offers them free candy instead (which he will gladly pay for), Kevin becomes annoyed again.
Short Film "Ghost" - Kevin's Dream Job
This short film takes place before Spooky Month, approximately 4-5 years ago.[3] It all starts with Kevin waking up to apply for a job at CandyClub. He brushes his teeth and rides his bike there, taking his resume with him. As a successful employee, Kevin signs a contract, puts on his uniform, and starts his first day of work. The store is dirty, so he cleans the store with a bored expression. Suddenly, the younger Skid and Pump enter the store, yelling "Trick or Treat". Kevin is confused only because it is September, but is greeted by the children making a mess as a "trick". Kevin tries his best to calm them down, but when he fails, he becomes furious and demands to see their parents. When Skid cries and Pump explains that Skid's father is gone, Kevin is taken back and, out of sympathy, gives the children free cans of candy. He apologizes for yelling. The children thank Kevin, and Pump hands him a bag of bugs in return, causing Kevin to scream, frantically shaking off the bugs and worms. What follows is a series of flashbacks to the indirect and direct misfortunes that Skid and Pump have brought or will bring upon him: bugs; bringing cats into the store; playing with fertilizer/soil and fighting in the mud; playing zombie with a dead body that had organs and guts everywhere; getting the Attention of the Universe; performing a ritual; the Unwelcome Guest events; the Death Smile events; playing with (fake) blood; the Tender Treats events; helping Frank steal candy; the Empty Grief events.
Kevin's Personality
Kevin is shown to dislike his job, likely due to his life going awry when he gets there. He is also sarcastic and gets easily upset, as shown when John and Jack walk into the store and start asking him about a pack of Sugar Pump left on the counter. Kevin seems to be unable to hold back his snarky comments, and this ends up getting him into trouble. He usually only speaks when he feels the need to.[4] He also seems to like kids, just not Skidmark and Pump.
Little things
Kevin is one of the few adult characters on the show who treated Skid and Pump harmlessly. The elder Pelo has previously mentioned that he is not related to any of the show's recurring characters.[5] The chocolate bars that Kevin gives to Skid and Pump in The Unwanted Guest are called "Bocadons", which is a reference to a Mexican candy called "Bocadin".[6] One of the candies he displays in the store window in The Unwelcome Guest resembles ENU, a character from Joel J.'s standalone indie animation.[7] Kevin may be in trouble with the cops, as evidenced by his sarcastic statement, "Wow, a cop shoots someone, what a surprise." Because he also looks at the Eyes, it is very likely that his eyes glow in the presence of something paranormal. Pelo has stated that Kevin is not pansexual. He likes to leave things like the character's sexuality up to the fans. It was believed that Kevin may have been in a romantic relationship with Streber, as there is a piece of graffiti on the wall of the public restroom seen in Tender Treats that reads "KEVIN X STREBER".[8] However, SrPelo later stated on stream that this is not canon and probably never will be. It was originally thought that he would be killed off in Episode 5 due to a tweet from the elder Pelo, but when the episode premiered, this was revealed to be false. As shown in Deadly Smiles and Tender Treats, he makes a dog-like growl when he is particularly angry. Kevin is not related to any characters we've seen between It's a Spooky Month and Spooky Month - Tender Treats.
Little things
From the short film about his character, "Kevin's Dream Job," it was revealed that: Judging by the signature, his last name begins with "P" (0:20). According to the calendar, his first working day was September 9 (0:03). He has fridge magnets with his name written on them (0:03). Via Tumblr asks, the elder Pelo stated that: Kevin's favorite color is pink.[9] Kevin's parents support him and his decision to live alone, and that they raised him to be kind.[1] On the Spooky Month fan server, the elder Pelo stated in response to questions: Kevin's favorite game would be a first-person shooter.[10] Radford is Kevin's best friend.[11] At CandyClub, Kevin is the manager, but he listens to the overall boss.[12] Kevin was a down-to-earth (aka level-headed/sane) person due to his childhood.[2] Although Kevin likes animals in general,[13] he dislikes the black cat that lives behind the CandyClub because it throws trash around when he has to clean up after it.[14] His favorite candy is gum.[15]
Kevin's appearance
Kevin is a young man with black hair and sideburns. In all of his appearances, he is shown wearing the CandyClub employee uniform, which consists of a white button-down shirt with a single pink stripe down both sleeves, a pink bow tie resembling a taffy wrapper with a white pattern, a white employee cap, light blue pants, and black shoes. In Deadly Smiles, he wears a pink sweater underneath his button-down shirt. When not at work, he typically wears a pink t-shirt with a white stripe down both sleeves, light blue pants, and black shoes.
His usual clothes
Pink T-shirt with white stripes on the sleeves and blue jeans and ruffles.
