The Behemoth cat has charm. He surprises people with human behavior. For example, he talks, walks on its hind legs, swallows herring, and even drinks alcohol. The cat is smart, eloquent, and intelligent. However, most of the time he is fooling around and resting. The character is able to quickly change behavior. Sometimes he is well-mannered and gallant, and sometimes aggressive and rude. The cat likes to embellish and is often frivolous. So, he says that he shoots better than Azazello, but when he shows his skills, he accidentally hits Helle's finger. Behemoth is a skilled marksman, he will deliberately miss to add comedy to the situation. The character can be called a real philosopher. He likes to reason, to enter into a discussion. At the same time, the cat does not always politely defend his opinion. Sometimes he behaves aggressively and brazenly. Behemoth often jokes, and many of his phrases have become catchphrases.: "I protest, Dostoevsky is immortal!"; "I'm not naughty, I'm not touching anyone, I'm fixing the primus." In addition, he never offends honest and decent people — the objects of his malicious jokes are exclusively those who deserve such an attitude through their bad deeds.

A huge black cat with yellow eyes and a curled mustache is also sometimes embodied in a poorly dressed fat man, but in fact his human form is a thin young man with burning eyes and black curled hair. The Behemoth surprises not only with its huge size, but also with its completely human behavior: it walks on its hind legs, talks, eats human food and even drinks. The cat likes to dress up, he tries to look good. He twirls his whiskers, looks after his appearance. He impresses Muscovites so much with his behavior and appearance that after his disappearance they begin to catch all the black cats.
