Appearance

Jugo is a skinny teenage boy of short stature. He has lightly tanned skin and wavy, spiky black hair with red streaks. He wears a silver hoop earring in each ear and his nails are painted black. His ID number, "15", is tattooed in black on his right cheek. Along with his current ID number tattoo, Jugo has scars and other tattoos of numbers that are most likely ID numbers from previous prisons; he also has a tattoo that resembles a barcode, as well as black stars. Jyugo is barefoot and wears a traditional black and white striped prison jumpsuit. The suit is torn at the neck, sleeves, and legs due to thick black shackles on his wrists, neck, and ankles; when activated, they transform his limbs into large, powerful blades. His ID number badge is pinned to the left side of his chest. His most distinctive feature is his eyes, which not only come in two different colors, but also change color under different lighting conditions. When using the power of his shackles, both of his eyes turn red.

Personality

Jugo is a confident and impulsive young man who gets bored very easily. It has been noted on multiple occasions that he has no talents other than picking locks and such, and is said to be practically useless at everything else. He cannot read, write, count, or swim, and has poor stamina and physical ability. Despite his many shortcomings, he is held in high regard by his fellow inmates, as he is a compassionate person who understands others. All three of his fellow inmates have stated that Jugo has done something for them at some point that ultimately changed their lives for the better. However, Jugo has little memory of these events and does not understand why he means so much to his friends. Jugo is a man without enthusiasm. He does not reciprocate his friends' excitement for holidays and celebrations, and shows no interest in anything. His apathy is such that he has no concept of greed or motivation, which Hajime Sugoroku described as "empty". Jugo admits that he has never enjoyed or wanted anything, and is envious of his friends' constant excitement, receiving happiness only from them. He seems to have become more motivated, and openly states several times that he wants to prove his worth and begin to change along with his friends. Jugo tends to blame himself for everything. He admits to being nervous about things he doesn't understand, but the presence of his friends is enough to relieve his anxiety. His relationships with them cause his self-confidence to grow over time. Like many teenage boys, Jugo shows interest in the opposite sex. However, he is poor at communicating with them and does not know how to compliment them, but he has shown a willingness to learn new things, such as when he asks Niko to teach him how to play video games. In conclusion, Jugo is a compassionate person who is willing to help even strangers and cares very much about his friends.

History

Jugo knows that he was born in prison, and even feels at home in it. Jugo has been accused of theft many times, but he always escaped during the first days of his imprisonment. According to Hajime, he really deserves to be in Nanba. In one of his previous prisons, while he was sleeping, they put shackles on him, namely on his hands, feet and neck. No matter how hard he tried, he could not take them off. He began to hate the person who put the shackles on him and wanted to find him. All he remembered about him was that he had a scar on his neck. From then on, that mysterious person was called the Scar Man. One day, Jugo met Musashi and they got into a fight. During the fight, Jugo's shackles turned into black blades and he cut out his remaining sighted eye, which of course left Musashi completely blind. Then, Jugo was sent to Nanbu, and each time he tried to escape to extend his sentence. He did this in order to find the Scarred Man.

Relationship with Uno

Of all the cellmates, they are the closest to each other and are best friends. They demonstrate deep friendship, respect and care. The two have logical thinking and are able to solve complex puzzles. Uno is an eighteen year old boy with long yellow-pink hair tied into a braid. He has blue eyes. Uno's main strength is his good intuition. Uno was imprisoned in Nambu for gambling. Uno loves women very much. Uno wears a black T-shirt and a white suit with blue stripes. Uno shares a cell with Jugo. Uno is British by nationality. Uno's prison number is 12, it is tattooed on the back of his hand.

Relationship with Nico

They are close friends and understand each other well. Niko admires Jugo's ability to pick locks and solve puzzles. Jugo worries about Niko and treats him like a little brother. Niko is a sixteen-year-old boy with long, tangled green hair. He has dark skin and red eyes. Niko wears an orange jumpsuit that is unbuttoned to his navel. He has shackles attached to his legs. Niko was sent to prison for drug trafficking. He suffers from very strange diseases, so he spends a lot of time in the infirmary. There are a lot of bandages on his body. In particular, one of his eyes is covered with bandages. On Niko's tongue, his prison number is 25. Niko loves anime and manga. He is cheerful and optimistic, and likes to copy cool people and characters. Niko is an American by nationality. Niko shares a cell with Jugo.

Relationship with Rock

They get along well, with Jugo giving him advice which Rock takes to heart and tolerating his frivolity. Rock is an eighteen-year-old boy who wears an orange jumpsuit. He has a scar on the bridge of his nose. Poke has yellow eyes and short purple-red hair. He also has green feather-shaped toothpaste. Rock's number is 69. He is Jugo's cellmate. Rock was a street hooligan in the past. He loves delicious food and fights. He is an American by nationality.

Relationship with Hajime Sugaroku

Hajime distrusts Jugo the most. He always keeps an eye on him. Jugo also distrusts Hajime, but Jugo's opinion of him is not entirely clear. He likes to tease Hajime about his escapes, but Jugo worries about him. He claims that Hajime cannot be fired because of his frequent escapes, since it is not the warden's fault. Hajime is the head warden of the 13th building of the Namba prison. He is a bald man with red eyes, 30 years old. He smokes a lot. He wears a white shirt, black pants, a black jacket, black shoes, a red tie and a black cap. He has a scar on his eye. Hajime is very strong physically. He has a younger brother, Hitoshi Sugaroku, who is an okama.

Relationship with Seitaro Tanabata

Jugo enjoys teasing him, and Seitaro doesn't take offense to it. Seitaro is the assistant to the head warden of the 13th building. He is a short panel with long blue hair and pink eyes. He wears a yellow star-shaped hair tie. He has a very gentle personality.

Relationship with Musashi

At first, their relationship was accompanied by hatred and each misunderstood the other. But after the New Year's arc, they were able to find a common language. Musashi is a prisoner in Building 4 of the prison. His hair is short and red and yellow. Musashi has dark skin. He is blind and wears a black blindfold. He goes around shirtless. He has piercings. In the past, Musashi was a victim of experiments, as a result of which he gained the ability to control fire.

Colony Namba

Nanba is a men's prison that houses the world's most dangerous criminals. People who have committed repeated crimes or escaped from prison repeatedly end up here.
