Nam-Gyu is a man of average height, with smooth fair skin, black slanted eyes, and shoulder-length black hair combed back. He wears silver rings and a black bracelet, wearing the player's uniform with the number 124 and the blue circle, indicating that he voted to continue playing.

Personality

Nam-gyu is shown to be more violent, cruel, and sadistic than Thanos. While Thanos treats his teammates with respect and is even upset by Gyeong-su's death, Nam-gyu bullies Se-mi and Min-su frequently, to the point where even Thanos calls him out on it. While not as unhinged as Thanos, Nam-gyu is still a bit mentally disturbed. Like Thanos, he doesn't mind using other people for his benefit and sees them as disposable. He also shares Thanos' vengeful nature and sees any comrade who opposes him as a traitor. He can also act very rude to other people and displays rude and inappropriate behavior. Unlike Thanos, who at least treats his teammates well and is even shown to be upset after Gyeong-su's death, Nam-gyu kills Se-mi without hesitation during the special game. He feels some resentment towards Thanos' treatment of him, feeling inferior to him. After Thanos' death, he curses Thanos for believing him to be an idiot and takes his cross necklace, taking Thanos' place as the group's main spokesperson. In keeping with his reckless behavior, Nam-gyu states that he believes an individual can escape the fear of death by telling himself that he does not care whether he lives or dies.

History

Nam-gyu, a former Club Pentagon promoter and drug user, gets involved in the Squid Games after losing over ₩300 million in a cryptocurrency scam called Dalmatian. Together with Thanos, a rapper seeking revenge on Myung-gi, the crypto influencer responsible for his financial troubles, he forms an alliance based on desperation and a desire for revenge. After passing the first game, Nam-gyu joins Thanos and Gyeong-su to form a team with Se-mi and Park Min-su. Despite his reservations about Min-su, they manage to pass the second challenge. However, tensions between Nam-gyu and Se-mi mount due to their defensiveness toward Min-su. During the vote to leave the game, Nam-gyu pressures Min-su to change his vote in favor of continuing. Confronting Myung-gi over his decision to vote "X", Nam-gyu and Thanos try to convince him to stay in the game. The situation becomes more complicated when Gi-hun's team intervenes. In the third round 'Mingle', Nam-gyu survives alongside Thanos, but shows contempt for Gyeong-su, stating that they will never be friends. Together, they manage to survive several rounds, betraying Min-su in the process. After the game, Nam-gyu notices that Min-su has survived and proudly hugs him. While attempting to manipulate Min-su into voting "O" again, the situation becomes tense when Se-mi changes her vote to "X." This leads to a violent confrontation in the bathroom between the players. Violence erupts when Myung-gi kills Thanos with a fork, leading Nam-gyu to use the same fork to murder several players. During the special game, he confronts Se-mi with deadly intentions. Despite Min-su's attempt to help her by throwing a glass bottle, Nam-gyu ends up brutally killing Se-mi.
