He appears to be a perfectionist, setting ridiculously high standards for anyone to achieve, but it only shows how confident he is in his abilities. He strives to provide the most comfortable pass for his hitters, and expects them to respond with the same high standards. When they don't, he can treat them like dirt, even if one of them is his own brother. He tends to be quite picky about the noise when serving, silencing the entire arena at that very moment and becoming disturbed if they don't listen to him. He is 100% competitive and hates losing with all his heart, which is why he sometimes tends to go off course in the middle of a match or competition. Osamu also noticed that Atsumu's mental age usually reduces to 5 years old when he is playing a match.

appearance

Atsumu is a young man of average height and a fairly robust body. He stands out for his particular haircut, which is dyed blonde with his bangs falling slightly to his right side (unlike his brother Osamu). On the sides and at the nape of his neck, he has shaved hair and sports what appears to be his natural hair color, which is black. He normally has a serene expression which is influenced by his large, slightly drooping eyes.

Atsumu and Osamu have a typical brotherly relationship. Among the twins, Atsumu is the one who usually takes the lead with Osamu following him. However, whenever Atsumu steps out of line, Osamu isn't afraid to use physical force to teach him a lesson. Despite being quick to quarrel and fight, they don't stay angry for long and quickly make up when playing a game of soccer. The twins have been interested in volleyball together since elementary school. The two are each other's biggest rivals and push each other to improve due to their dislike of losing. On the court, they have perfect chemistry and can perform a Quick God-Like without prior practice.

relationship with Kageyama Tobio

Kageyama immediately disliked Atsumu when the second year called him a goody-two-shoes, but Atsumu later explained that he was referring to how Kageyama was diligent, honest, and obedient; however, it remains unknown whether Atsumu intended his explanation as a compliment or another disparaging remark. Despite this, Kageyama does not hold a grudge for long. Atsumu seems to be amused by Kageyama for some reason, and calls him "Tobio-kun".

relationship with Hinata Shoyo

Atsumu first noticed Hinata when he went to observe Karasuno's match against Tsubakihara. At first, Atsumu did not think much of Hinata and indirectly referred to Hinata as "people who are really trash at the game". However, Atsumu's opinion changed during their match after realizing Hinata's potential as a player and his "confidence" as an attacker for his setter. At the end of the match, Atsumu called out Hinata declaring that he will one day throw him at Hinata. The two would later become teammates in MSBY Black Jackals, thus fulfilling their earlier promise.

relationship with Kiyoomi Sakusa

After the time-skip, the two are teammates in MSBY's Black Jackals. Sakusa and Atsumu seem to have a rivalry with each other when it comes to serves. Sakusa seems to enjoy teasing Atsumu when he makes a mistake or succeeds at something Atsumu couldn't do, but quickly becomes annoyed when Atsumu makes fun of him, most often when she calls Sakusa 'Omi-Omi'. Despite this, the two work well together during a match.
