Personality Sanji is kind, polite, acts calm, flirtatious with women, and generally charming, carrying himself like a gentleman but can be quick to act bratty, short-tempered, and rude when something goes wrong, such as when people fight in the Baratie or someone threatens a woman. He is also constantly fighting with Zeff about the Baratie, the kitchen, and his dream. He takes pride in his cooking and dislikes playing waiter to the point where he misrepresents the restaurant to the Strawhats, tarnishing their reputation. But Sanji is actually extremely kind and will offer anyone who is hungry a perfect meal. He loves cooking and being creative with it. He feels guilty and indebted to Zeff because the latter gave up his leg - and therefore the possibility of being a pirate - to save him, to the point of giving up his dream of finding the All Blue to stay by Zeff's side. He has this tendency to put himself last. He is also dedicated, demanding of himself, and hard-working.

Sanji [1] Sanji, portrayed by Taz Skylar, is a main character in One Piece. He is the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates and the fifth member of the crew. He seeks to find the All Blue, a rumored chef's paradise where all four seas, along with their wildlife, meet. Since his childhood, Sanji served as a cook on the Orbit, which was docked by the pirate Red-Leg Zeff, before the ship was destroyed in a storm, leaving Sanji and Zeff as survivors, who gave all the food support to Sanji in order for him to save himself and one day, find the All Blue. As a thank you, Sanji became a trainee cook on the Baratie, supporting Zeff in his dream of opening his own restaurant, though he was often scolded by the latter. Over time, Sanji met and befriended Monkey D. Luffy , who invited him to join his crew, giving Sanji back his desire to dream and eventually leaving the Baratie , bidding farewell to Zeff to join the crew in their quest to find the One Piece .

History Background Nine years ago, as a child, Sanji worked at the Orbit as a cook's apprentice. He was already making good, creative dishes that the adult cooks made fun of, saying he would never serve them. Sanji said he would when he found the All Blue, and the other told him it was just a legend. But the Red Leg Pirate Zeff and his crew attacked the ship. Sanji stayed hidden in the kitchen while the other cooks fled. When Zeff stumbled in there with blood-stained boots and tasted the velouté that Sanji had prepared before adding oregano to it, he came out and threatened the pirate with a kitchen knife. Zeff was not impressed until Sanji told him that it was his velouté. Sanji then insulted the pirate while Zeff threatened to kill him, until the boy loudly told him that he would not die there because he had to find the All Blue. However, both ships were caught in a sudden storm and sank. Zeff and Sanji were the only survivors of the shipwreck, and they landed on a large rock jutting out of the sea with only a few bags. There was no shelter, no way to fish, and nothing to eat on the rock. Zeff left a small bag of provisions for Sanji, ordering him to go to the other side of the rock and only return if he saw a ship. The pirate kept a larger bag. Sanji began yelling at him for having more supplies, but Zeff told him it was because he was three times as big. The boy made it to the other side of the rock and waited.

On the second day, Sanji opened his bag and began rationing his food, eating only a small portion. On the 3rd day, the sun began to burn his skin. He was only able to drink a small amount of water that was trapped in the rocks. On the 25th day, it rained heavily and he had trouble finding shelter. However, he saw a ship and began to shout and wave at them as loudly as he could. The ship didn't see him and kept on its course. On the 30th day, Sanji began eating moldy bread, as it was the last food he had. On the 50th day, he had none left and was lying in the sun, his skin burned. On the 70th day, the hunger was too strong, his stomach hurt, and he went to see Zeff to see if he had any food left, willing to kill him if necessary. He found the large bag of provisions still intact and immediately opened it, but only found jewelry and items, and no food. Sanji then shouted to Zeff to let him know where the food was, he approached him, and found that he only had one leg left. Seeing the sharp rock in front of Zeff and blood everywhere, he realized that Zeff cut off his own leg and ate it. When Sanji asked him why he gave him all the food and ate his own leg while he was just a stranger, Zeff replied that they both had the same dream of finding the All Blue. And seeing that he would probably meet his end, he hoped that Sanji would find it one day, assuring him that the legendary sea exists. And asked him to stay alive for the both of them. On Day 85, Zeff and Sanji were finally rescued. At some point, they opened the Baratie restaurant in the East Blue, with Zeff as the main chef and Sanji as the sous chef.
