Sae is a tall but thin young man with reddish brown hair and thin green eyes that are framed by a set of long lower lashes just like his brother, Rin. During the National Representative match, he dons the white number 10 jersey of the Japan U-20 National Team with a black jersey underneath and black gloves.

Playmaker: A player who controls the flow of the team's offensive play and is often involved in passing moves that lead to goals, through his vision, technique, ball control, creativity, and passing ability. Sae has been described as having a cold and calculating style of play. He constantly creates ideal plays for his team using his passing and dribbling, essentially controlling the offense, and fills any gaps the defense may have by going to the most critical point using his vision. With every play he makes, Sae aims to crush his opponent quickly and effectively, destroying them "beautifully." Professional Soccer Technique: Sae is considered a genius player in the world of professional soccer. He plays soccer in Europe and is considered to be at the professional level, but has not turned full professional just because of the age requirements in Spain, at the start of the series. He is considered to be the best player in Japan and can easily fill a stadium with his name alone due to his immense reputation. Even top-level players like Rin Itoshi and Ryusei Shidou are a league below him. His skills are some of the most impressive among U-20 players in the world, placing him in the New Generation World's Best XI. Perfect Striking Technique: Sae has the ability to control the intensity, angle, speed, and accuracy of his strikes to an extreme level at any given time. Not only is he able to consistently perform complex passes using his superior technique and footwork, but with his skill level, he is also able to perfectly manipulate the ball to the point where his passes are easy to receive but difficult to intercept or block.

Long pass: A long pass, usually 40 to 50 metres long, which gives the ball enough height and power to avoid interception. Lob: A shot in which the ball is kicked from below with precision but less than maximum force, in order to launch it high into the air and pass it over the heads of the opponents. Sae can also use this pass with his weaker right foot, to still make an accurate pass. Lightning-fast passing: From a set piece, Sae is capable of making an incredibly fast pass that borders on a shot. Using his reflexes, he takes into account all the conditions to get to a place the opponent can't reach, as if he were threading a needle.

Counter-Dribbling: Sae's dribbling is "passive" compared to Bachira and Yukimiya's more proactive dribbling. Rather than actively passing defenders, Sae will watch the defender's pace and movements before passing them in a counterattack. Sae's dribbling is the best shown so far, being able to effortlessly get past players like Isagi and Bachira with one fluid motion. He is also shown to be able to get past his brother Rin with relative ease, dribbling past him in each of their duels. Rin noted that the pace of each of his touches when dribbling is incredibly fast, bolstered by his experience in Europe. Sae often prioritizes passing to advance the ball up the field, but when he wishes to play seriously, he changes his style and makes his way through on his own with his dribbling, drastically increasing his options. When Sae gets serious, his dribbling is good enough to get past the entire Blue Lock 11 formation without any help. Hyper Fast Bikes: Sae performs a bike feint at incredible speed, making it difficult to follow. Croquette: Sae kicks the ball from one foot to the other before using the second foot to pass the ball past her opponent and through them. She performed this move at an incredibly fast pace, leaving Rin little time to react. Roulette: Sae stops the ball with the outside of his foot, shielding it from his opponent, before performing a roulette to pass it. Nutmeg: Sae dribbles the ball through a defender's legs and manages to get past his defense with little effort.

Hocus Pocus Nut: Sae performs a springy but cross-over move by crossing the ball behind his dominant leg before passing it between his opponent's legs with his non-dominant foot. He first performed this move with his brother Rin when he returned from Spain, but he also performed this move with Rin during the Japan National Representative Match. Elastic Nut: Sae performs a regular elastic nut to nutmeg a defender and get past them. He did this to Isagi when he ran through the midfield during the Japan National Representative Match. Rabona Caño: A technique in which a player kicks the ball with the kicking leg crossed behind the supporting leg. Sae can use this technique to play the ball between an opponent's legs, before passing it, as demonstrated against Yukimiya. same wavelength as Shidou and exploit his abilities to their full potential. Metavision: With her pristine and trained vision, Sae is able to constantly gather data on each player, every play they make, and their positions on the field and after analyzing that data she is able to react to their movements instantly and without even realizing their arrival at the most critical point of their plays, effectively shutting down their offense or bypassing their defense with ease.
