History

Harleen Quinzel stood out during her school years as an agile gymnast, which allowed her to obtain a scholarship to study psychiatry at Arkham University. To get good grades, she used several reprehensible tricks, such as flirting with her teachers. Later, she worked as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where she met her patient, the Joker. Deceived by the story that he had had an unhappy childhood, Quinzel fell deeply in love with him. The authorities suspected that she had helped the Joker escape from the asylum several times, and so they imprisoned her. During an earthquake in Gotham City, Quinzel escaped from prison and became Harley Quinn, Joker's partner in crime. The relationship between the Joker and Harley Quinn is one of the most complex in the DC Universe. He yells at her, attacks her, and abandons her without warning when necessary, even nearly killing her on occasion. However, she believes that he truly loves her and that these acts are just a joke. Joker has shown affection for her on occasion, despite always having an episode where he mistreats her. In the episode "Harley and Ivy" from the cartoon Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn is frustrated by Joker's contempt and then decides to steal the Harlequin Diamond from the Gotham City museum to prove her worth. At the same time, Poison Ivy steals toxic plants from the museum. The two quickly become friends and Poison Ivy takes her to her home, in a toxic waste dump. Poison Ivy injects her with a serum that makes Harley Quinn immune to all toxins and poisons. Together, they commit several crimes, becoming known as the "Queens of Crime" of Gotham City. Their friendship is shaken several times by Poison Ivy's jealousy of the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker.
