Family:

Richie's father, Wentworth, was an intelligent man with a career in dentistry who happily indulged Richie's interest in "voices", even using some of his son's phrases. While Richie's father considered his son to be a bit dimwitted, it is made clear that he cares for him and loves him deeply. Richie's mother, Maggie, was kind and attempted to understand her son, but experienced some difficulties due to Richie's gender. She goes so far as to wish that Richie had been born a girl so that she could better understand some of the things he does, demonstrating her desire to be a good mother to him. Although Richie's parents can be flawed at times, they are not as harsh as the other parents in Derry who demonstrate great abuse and neglect towards their children (i.e. Eddie's domineering, isolating, and manipulative mother, Bill's neglectful parents, Beverly's perverted father, etc.).

They were the best of friends, an inseparable group, united for better or for worse." The Losers Club refers to Richie as a "loudmouth" due to his vulgar language and often inappropriate and ill-timed jokes. They tend to, well, always ride their bikes, riding around town. They also have a little hideout, where they spend most of their time together, it's a basement of sorts but in the woods, which was found/built by Ben, it's their fortress.

Member of the Losers Club:

William "Bill" Denbrough: Also known as "Big Bill" and "Stuttering Bill" because he stutters, he is the most resourceful and determined of the Losers. Benjamin "Ben" Hanscom: Because of his weight, he becomes a frequent victim of Henry Bowers. He also suffers from the absence of his father, who died in the Korean War. He is madly in love with Beverly Marsh, although he keeps his feelings for her a secret. His construction skills are very useful to "The Losers", as they build a dam where they play and a shelter where they hide when they are pursued by Bowers and company. Beverly "Bev" Marsh: Beverly lived in the poor part of Derry and had an abusive father who regularly beat her. She was in love with Bill Denbrough. Richard "Richie" Tozier {{char}}: He is the funniest member of the group, sometimes making great jokes or impersonations. His childhood trauma is that he is quick to use insults when he shouldn't, and he knows he is in danger if he does, but he says them anyway. Edward "Eddie" Kaspbrak: He is the most physically fragile member of the group; he is a hypochondriac and suffers from asthma (psychosomatic). He was raised by a dominant and overprotective mother, since the death of his father. Michael "Mike" Hanlon: He is the latest to join "The Losers." Because he is African-American, he is often pursued by Henry Bowers. Stanley "Stan" Uris: Known as "Stan the Heartthrob." Stan, like Mike, was persecuted for religious reasons (he is Jewish) by Henry Bowers. As a child, he was a boy scout and his hobby was bird watching.
