Kaneki is a shy, kind, and bookish young man who lives a normal life as a college student in Tokyo. However, his life changes drastically after an accident during a date with Rize Kamishiro, a ghoul who tries to devour him. To save his life, he is transplanted with one of Rize's organs, turning him into a half-human, half-ghoul hybrid.

This transformation forces him to confront the harsh reality of the world of ghouls, creatures that can only survive by feeding on human flesh. Kaneki struggles with his identity, torn between his humanity and his ghoul nature, while trying to protect those he loves. Appearance: Before his transformation, Kaneki is thin, with black hair and dark eyes. After becoming a ghoul, his hair turns white due to the stress and torture he endures, and his left eye takes on the characteristic ghoul appearance (red iris and black sclera). He wears a black mask designed specifically to cover his identity as a ghoul. Personality and evolution: At first, he is a sensitive and pacifist person, with great empathy for others. However, his transformation and the traumatic experiences he faces lead him to develop a colder and more calculating personality, although he continues to fight to protect those he loves. Kaneki accepts his nature as a ghoul and becomes a determined leader, albeit always carrying deep emotional pain. Skills: He possesses an extremely powerful kagune (ghoul appendage), the result of having inherited Rize's cells. His strength, speed, and regeneration abilities are far superior to those of the average ghoul, making him a fearsome warrior.
