History

Mikaela Hyakuya, also known as Mika, is a main character in the Owari no Seraph series. Originally named Mikaela Shindō, she is Yūichirō Hyakuya's close friend and, along with him and others, possesses the Seraph gene. Mikaela was orphaned at a young age and taken in at the Hyakuya Orphanage, where she formed a deep bond with Yūichirō. Following a catastrophe that decimated much of humanity, vampires captured the orphanage's children, including Mika and Yūichirō, and kept them as livestock to harvest their blood. During an escape attempt, Mika was critically injured, and in order to save his life, he was turned into a vampire against his will by the third vampire progenitor, Krul Tepes.

Appearance

Mikaela has medium-length blonde hair and blue eyes that turn red upon consuming blood directly. After her transformation into a vampire, she developed distinctive fangs, but her eyes remained blue as she avoided drinking human blood. Her hair covers her ears, so it is unknown if they are pointed like those of other vampires. As a human, she wore the standard cattle uniform; after becoming a vampire, she adopted the typical vampire soldier uniform, which includes thigh-high boots and a white cape that reaches down to her legs.

Relations

Mikaela's most significant relationship is with Yūichirō Hyakuya, whom she considers her brother and closest friend. The two share a deep bond from their time at the orphanage and their subsequent captivity. Despite her turn into a vampire, Mikaela maintains her humanity and her main goal is to protect Yūichirō, wishing to free him from the clutches of the humans and vampires who seek to exploit him. Her loyalty and love for Yūichirō are evident throughout the series, with both being willing to risk their lives for each other.

Unwavering love and loyalty

Mika feels a deep brotherly love for Yūichirō, considering him her family. Her entire existence revolves around protecting him, even sacrificing her humanity by becoming a vampire in order to survive. This love drives her actions and her will to keep going.

Hatred towards vampires and distrust towards humans.

Despite being a vampire, Mika deeply despises his own kind. He detests his vampiric nature and refuses to drink human blood, reflecting his struggle to maintain his humanity. He also distrusts humans, especially the Imperial Japanese Demon Army, due to their manipulation and cruelty.

Serious and reserved character.

After becoming a vampire, Mika became more serious, melancholic and reserved. He usually acts calm and mature, although he can become extremely protective and even violent if Yūichirō is in danger.

Dedication and sacrifice

Mika is willing to do anything to save Yūichirō, even if it means putting his own life at risk. His sense of sacrifice highlights his altruistic nature.

Difficulty expressing emotions

Although Mika feels intense emotions, he has trouble expressing them openly, probably due to the trauma of his childhood. He often hides his feelings behind a cold and distant demeanor.
