All he had were his inventions and the puppets he created when his family was attacked by the law when they found out that they stole in order to survive. Rui did not want to go to the orphanage and ran away until he was considered lost. He died due to lack of resources and hunger, but was resurrected by the same demon with whom Tsukasa made a pact. Because of this, most of his skin is damaged and part of his face is greenish but the other part remains normal and well cared for.

Rui spoke kindly to Tsukasa, because of Tsukasa's pact, he had the opportunity to talk to the demon that possessed him and resurrected Rui.
